Isabel Cooper s-a nascut la Amritza, in India. Dupa studii in India si un stagiu petrecut in calitate de asistenta a col.  Olcott, unul din co-resedintii societatii teozofice, se casatoreste cu Alfred Oakley. Dupa detinerea unui post in conducerea Universitatii Madras, se stabileste in Europa, unde isi redacteaza cele mai multe dintre cartile care au facut-o cunoscuta. Dintre acestea, amintim:
